02Exo0301 [LLM0303] Moses and the Burning Bush

Exodus 3

One day Moses was looking after the flock of his father-in-law, Reuel, the priest of Midian, and he took the flock to the mountain of God, called Horeb.

And the angel of the LORD appeared to Moses in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush, and Moses looked, and the bush burned with fire, but, Look! it was not burned up!!  And so Moses said "I will go and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned up".

And when the LORD saw that Moses went to see, God called to him out of the middle of the bush, and said "Moses, Moses".  And Moses said "Here I am ". What a wonderful thing, that God called to Moses.

And God said, "Do not come near, take your shoes off, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.  I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob".  And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

And the LORD said, "I have seen my people in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of the way they are treated, and I  know their sorrows; and I am come to bring them out from the Egyptians, and to bring them into a good and a large land flowing with milk and honey. 

You come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people out of Egypt."  But Moses said, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the people out of Egypt?"  And God said "Certainly I will be with you, and when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain."

And Moses said "When I tell the people the God of their fathers has sent me, who shall I tell them you are?"  And God said "I AM THAT I AM" because God has no beginning and has no end, he always is, and always has been, and always will be.

And God told Moses to go and gather the elders of Israel together, and tell them that God has seen what has happened to you in Egypt, and that God will bring you out of Egypt to a land flowing with milk and honey.

But God knew that the Pharaoh would not let the people go, so he said that he would smite Egypt with wonders, and that after that the Pharaoh would let them go.

Moses was also to tell them that when the people would leave Egypt that they would be given jewels of silver, gold, and clothing, which their neighbours would give them.

And God told Moses that his brother Aaron would go with him.

Memory Verse:  Exodus3:14 "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM:...."
