Romans 10: When Will Israel Be Saved?

by Wayne Blank

"Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved ... But they have not all obeyed the Gospel"

The family of Jacob, who the LORD (see The Identity Of The LORD God and The LORD God Our Saviour) renamed as "Israel," were born from various people of the nations of the world as a living prophecy of how the Kingdom of God will be inhabited by "born again" people of all nations of the world (see What Was The Lesson Of John 3:16?). That's what the true Gospel of the coming Kingdom of God is all about (see What Gospel Did Jesus Preach? and The Only Political Party That's Going To Survive).

Examples:

Abraham was born in Iraq (see A Biography Of Abraham: The Genealogy Of Abram and A Biography Of Abraham: From Ur To Canaan).

Rebekah, the wife of Isaac, was born in Syria (see The Marriage of Isaac and Rebekah).

Jacob's four wives - Rachel, Leah, Bilhah and Zilpah - were born in Syria (see The Syrian Connection).

The first eleven of Jacob's sons, and Jacob's only daughter (see Dinah Of Israel), were born in Syria (see A Biography Of Jacob: The Jacobites Of Syria).

The first Jews were born from Judah and two Canaanite women (see The First Jews).

Ephraim and Manasseh were born in Egypt from an Egyptian mother (see The Adoption Of Ephraim and Manasseh).

Ruth, a key ancestor of King David and the Messiah, was born in Jordan (see Elimelech and Naomi and The Marriage Of Boaz and Ruth).

The united kingdom of Israel, and then the separated Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah (see Israel In History and Prophecy: Israel and Judah), failed to live up to their prophetic calling. They fell back into the unconverted world from which they came - and so they fell out of existence (see Israel In History and Prophecy: The Lost Ten Tribes and Israel In History and Prophecy: Kingdom Of Judah and Israel In History and Prophecy: Back To Babylon).

The people of the Kingdom of Judah (the tribes of Judah, Benjamin and Levi; see Jews - Three Tribes and Three Meanings) returned from their Babylonian exile seventy years later (see Israel In History and Prophecy: The Return Of Judah), but thereafter rendered the Way of the LORD into a mere nationalized religion for themselves. It was based upon the actual Truth that they were given, but they moreover made it into little more than observances of their own national traditions (see Israel In History and Prophecy: Judaism and Why Call Me, Lord, Lord, and Do Not The Things Which I Say?).

It was from that state of self-inflicted blindness, that Paul himself had be cured of (see Paul's Blindness Lesson), that Paul spoke of when he said "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved." That is going to happen, in due time (see the Fact Finder question below).

"10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

10:5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 10:7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 10:18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

10:19 But I say, Did not Israel know?

First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

10:20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

10:21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people." (Romans 10:1-21 KJV)
