Q. 89. How is the Word made effectual to salvation?

A. The Spirit of God maketh the reading, but especially the preaching, of the Word, an effectual means of convincing and converting sinners, and of building them up in holiness and comfort, through faith, unto salvation.[185]


[185] Nehemiah 8:8-9. So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading. And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. (느8:8-9  하나님의 율법 책을 낭독하고 그 뜻을 해석하여 백성으로 그 낭독하는 것을 다 깨닫게 하매 백성이 율법의 말씀을 듣고 다 우는지라 총독 느헤미야와 제사장겸 학사 에스라와 백성을 가르치는 레위 사람들이 모든 백성에게 이르기를 오늘은 너희 하나님 여호와의 성일이니 슬퍼하지 말며 울지 말라 하고 

Acts 20:32. And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. (행20:32 지금 내가 너희를 주와 및 그 은혜의 말씀께 부탁하노니 그 말씀이 너희를 능히 든든히 세우사 거룩케 하심을 입은 모든 자 가운데 기업이 있게 하시리라 

Romans 10:14-17. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (롬10:14-17 그런즉 저희가 믿지 아니하는 이를 어찌 부르리요 듣지도 못한 이를 어찌 믿으리요 전파하는 자가 없이 어찌 들으리요 보내심을 받지 아니하였으면 어찌 전파하리요 기록된바 아름답도다 좋은 소식을 전하는 자들의 발이여 함과 같으니라 그러나 저희가 다 복음을 순종치 아니하였도다 이사야가 가로되 주여 우리의 전하는 바를 누가 믿었나이까 하였으니 그러므로 믿음은 들음에서 나며 들음은 그리스도의 말씀으로 말미암았느니라  

2 Timothy 3:15-17. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. (딤후3:15-17 또 네가 어려서부터 성경을 알았나니 성경은 능히 너로 하여금 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 믿음으로 말미암아 구원에 이르는 지혜가 있게 하느니라 모든 성경은 하나님의 감동으로 된 것으로 교훈과 책망과 바르게 함과 의로 교육하기에 유익하니 이는 하나님의 사람으로 온전케 하며 모든 선한 일을 행하기에 온전케 하려 함이니라 


문89. 하나님의 말씀이 어떻게 효력이 되어 구원을 얻게 하는가 ?

답. 하나님의 말씀을 읽는 것과 특히 강설하는 것으로써, 하나님의 신이 효력 있는 방법을 삼아 죄인을 반성시켜 회개케 하시며, 또 믿음으로 말미암아 거룩함과 위로를 더하셔서 구원에 이르게 하신다.

      (1) 하나님의 말씀을 읽으므로 (요 5:39 , 17:3 )

      (2) 설교함으로 (행 10:44 )

      (3) 반성하여 회개함으로 (행 2:37 , 약 1:23 )

      (4) 성경 말씀을 믿음으로 (롬 1:16 , 딤후 3:15 )
