The Line of Seth

After the tragic event involving Cain and Abel, a third son was born to Adam And Eve. He was named Seth, from the Hebrew word pronounced shayth, meaning to put, or to substitute. From Seth's descendants was eventually born The Savior.

There are two slightly different genealogies for Jesus Christ listed in The Bible - one in Matthew 1:1-16, and another in Luke 3:23-38 (as listed above). Why?

Although both are assumed to be the family line of Joseph, the very good and righteous step-father of The Savior, Luke's listing is actually that of Mary. Matthew lists Jesus Christ's legal claim (by primogeniture) to the throne of King David, through Joseph, while Luke establishes His actual physical descent from King David, through Mary - exactly as specified in Prophecy.

Fact Finder: In the book of Revelation, is Jesus Christ referred to as the "Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David"?
