Job 42: Rebels Against The Devil

"The LORD turned the captivity of Job ... also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before"

Satan's attack upon Job (see How Did The Devil Challenge Job To Commit A Satan? and What Did Satan Do To Job's Soul?) happened because Job wasn't a liberal who claimed an "anything goes and God will love me" religion for himself (see Satan's Calling and The Seed Of Fools; also What Is Satan's Real Name?). Satan viewed Job as a righteous rebel who was fighting against the Devil's "Babylon" regime in the present world.

"1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil." (Job 1:1 KJV)

God's offer of salvation is open to everyone who repents of the self-worship dead-end ways of Satan and follows the eternal life Way of the LORD. "The LORD loves everyone" - who obey His Laws against foolishness and evil (see Christ Died For Repentant Sinners).

"21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." (Revelation 21:6-8 KJV)

"6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 KJV)

The LORD provided Job with many teachings as part of his healing from an ordeal that made him stronger in knowledge and righteousness (see What Did The LORD Teach About How To Pray?, The First Teacher, Red Sky At Night, Sailor's Delight, What Are The Hunter and The Seven Sisters Doing In Heaven?, What Did The LORD Say About Animals?, Meet Your Maker and The Origin Of Moby Dick).

"42:1 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

42:2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. 42:3 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

42:4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 42:5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. 42:6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes." (Job 42:1-6 KJV)

Job's friends were righteous men whose understanding required more depth (see Job's Inquisition, Who Were Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar?, In The Eyes Of The Beholder and Innocent Until Proven Guilty). When all was done, they too got the message.

"42:7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 42:8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. 42:9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job." (Job 42:7-9 KJV)

The LORD (Who was and is Jesus Christ - see Genesis 1: In The Beginning Was The Word and The Kingdom Of The LORD God) then restored Job to more than he had before his righteous tribulation. The restoration was itself a prophecy of salvation to eternal life (see the Fact Finder question below).

"42:10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. 42:11 Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.

42:12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. 42:13 He had also seven sons and three daughters. 42:14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. 42:15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.

42:16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. 42:17 So Job died, being old and full of days." (Job 42:10-17 KJV)
