Q. 94. What is baptism?

A. Baptism is a sacrament, wherein the washing with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,[193] doth signify and seal our ingrafting into Christ, and partaking of the benefits of the covenant of grace, and our engagement to be the Lord’s.[194]


[193] Matthew 28:19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. (마28:19 그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주고  

[194] Acts 2:38-42. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. (행2:38-42  베드로가 가로되 너희가 회개하여 각각 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 세례를 받고 죄 사함을 얻으라 그리하면 3)성령을 선물로 받으리니 이 약속은 너희와 너희 자녀와 모든 먼데 사람 곧 주 우리 하나님이 얼마든지 부르시는 자들에게 하신 것이라 하고 또 여러 말로 확증하며 권하여 가로되 너희가 이 패역한 세대에서 구원을 받으라 하니 그 말을 받는 사람들은 세례를 받으매 이 날에 제자의 수가 삼천이나 더하더라 저희가 사도의 가르침을 받아 서로 교제하며 떡을 떼며 기도하기를 전혀 힘쓰니라

Acts 22:16. And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. (행22:16 이제는 왜 주저하느뇨 일어나 주의 이름을 불러 세례를 받고 너의 죄를 씻으라 하더라 

Romans 6:3-4. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (롬6:3-4 무릇 그리스도 예수와 합하여 세례를 받은 우리는 그의 죽으심과 합하여 세례 받은 줄을 알지 못하느뇨 그러므로 우리가 그의 죽으심과 합하여 세례를 받음으로 그와 함께 장사되었나니 이는 아버지의 영광으로 말미암아 그리스도를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리심과 같이 우리로 또한 새 생명 가운데서 행하게 하려 함이니라  

Galatians 3:26-27. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (갈3:26-27너희가 다 믿음으로 말미암아 그리스도 예수 안에서 하나님의 아들이 되었으니 누구든지 그리스도와 합하여 세례를 받은 자는 그리스도로 옷입었느니라  

1 Peter 3:21. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (벧전3:21 물은 예수 그리스도의 부활하심으로 말미암아 이제 너희를 구원하는 표니 곧 세례라 육체의 더러운 것을 제하여 버림이 아니요 오직 선한 양심이 하나님을 향하여 찾아가는 것이라


문94. 세례가 무엇인가 ?

답. 세례는 물을 가지고 성부와 성자와 성령의 이름으로 씻는 성례인데, 우리가 그리스도에게 접붙임과, 은혜의 약속의 모든 유익에 참여함과, 주님의 사람이 되기로 약조함을 표시하여 인치는 것이다.

      (1) 삼위의 이름으로 씻는 예식 (마 28:19 )

      (2) 그리스도께 접붙이는 것 (롬 6:3,4 )

      (3) 모든 은혜에 참여하는 것 (계 1:5 )

      (4) 주님의 사람되는 약속의 표 (갈 3:26,27 )
