Q. 90. How is the Word to be read and heard, that it may become effectual to salvation?

A. That the Word may become effectual to salvation, we must attend thereunto with diligence, preparation, and prayer;[186] receive it with faith and love, lay it up in our hearts, and practice it in our lives.[187]

Deuteronomy 6:16 ff. Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah. Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee. And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, (신6:16-19  너희가 맛사에서 시험한것 같이 너희의 하나님 여호와를 시험하지 말고 너희의 하나님 여호와께서 너희에게 명하신 명령과 증거하신 것과 규례를 삼가 지키며 여호와의 보시기에 정직하고 선량한 일을 행하라 그리하면 네가 복을 얻고 여호와께서 네 열조에게 맹세하사 네 대적을 몰수히 네 앞에서 쫓아내리라 하신 아름다운 땅을 들어가서 얻으리니 여호와의 말씀과 같으리라 

Psalm 119:18. Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. (시119:18 내 눈을 열어서 주의 법의 기이한 것을 보게 하소서 

 1 Peter 2:1-2. Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. (벧전2:1-2 그러므로 모든 악독과 모든 궤휼과 외식과 시기와 모든 비방하는 말을 버리고 갓난 아이들 같이 순전하고 신령한 젖을 사모하라 이는 이로 말미암아 너희로 구원에 이르도록 자라게 하려 함이라

Psalm 119:11. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (시119:11내가 주께 범죄치 아니하려 하여 주의 말씀을 내 마음에 두었나이다  

2 Thessalonians 2:10. And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (살후2:10 불의의 모든 속임으로 멸망하는 자들에게 임하리니 이는 저희가 진리의 사랑을 받지 아니하여 구원함을 얻지 못함이니라  

Hebrews 4:2. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. (히 4:2 저희와 같이 우리도 복음 전함을 받은 자이나 그러나 그 들은바 말씀이 저희에게 유익되지 못한 것은 듣는 자가 믿음을 화합지 아니함이라 

James 1:22-25. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (약1:22-25너희는 도를 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지말라 누구든지 도를 듣고 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 생긴 얼굴을 보는 사람과 같으니 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모양이 어떠한 것을 곧 잊어버리거니와 자유하게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요 실행하는 자니 이 사람이 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라  


문90. 하나님의 말씀을 어떻게 읽고 들어야 효력이 되어 구원을 얻는 방도가 되는가 ?

답. 하나님의 말씀이 우리로 하여금 구원을 얻게 하는 방도가 되게 하려면, 마땅히 부지런함과 예비함과 기도함으로써 생각하며, 믿음과 사랑을 우리 마음에 두고 행실에 나타낼 것이다.

      (1) 부지런히 읽고 (딤전 4:13 )

      (2) 기도하며 생각하고 (시 119:148 )

      (3) 사랑으로 마음에 두며 (시 119:11 , 사 66:2 )

      (4) 행실에 나타낼 것 (약 1:21,22 )
