Q. 77. What is required in the ninth commandment?
A. The ninth commandment requireth the maintaining and promoting of truth between man and man, and of our own and our neighbor’s good name,[165] especially in witness-bearing.[166]
[165] Zechariah 8:16. These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: Acts 25:10. Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest. 3 John 12. Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
[166] Proverbs 14:5, 25. A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.... A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

답. 제 구 계명에 명하는 것은 특히 증거할 때에 피차 진실함과 또 우리와 이웃의 명예를 보존하며 증진케 하라는 것이다.
(1) 피차에 진실할 것 (엡 4:15,25 )
(2) 이웃의 명예를 보존할 것 (잠 14:5,25 , 고전 13:4,5 )
(3) 이웃의 명예를 증진케 할것 (잠 22:1 , 빌 4:8 )
